How Much Is the Solar Panel Grant in Ireland?

The SEAI solar PV grant is worth up to €1,800. You get €700 per kWp for the first 2 kWp, then €200 per kWp up to 4 kWp.
System size Grant rate
First 2 kWp €700 per kWp
From 2 kWp to 4 kWp €200 per extra kWp
4 kWp or more €1,800 (maximum)
Worked example

A 4 kWp system earns (2 × €700) + (2 × €200) = €1,800. Add a 5 kWh battery and the grant rises to €2,400.

New €600 SEAI Battery Grant

0% VAT and Export Payments on Solar Panels

On top of the grant, domestic solar carries 0% VAT, and you can sell surplus electricity back to the grid.
Is there VAT on solar panels in Ireland?

No. Domestic solar panels and installation have been zero-rated for VAT since 2023, so there is no VAT added to a home system. A battery fitted with your panels under one contract is also 0% VAT. A standalone battery on its own carries the standard 23% VAT.

Yes. Under the Clean Export Guarantee, your electricity supplier pays you for the surplus your panels export to the grid, and the first €400 of that income each year is tax-free. It stacks on top of the grant and the VAT saving.

Solar Grants for Qualifying Households

Households on certain social welfare payments can get up to €9,000, and the Warmer Homes and Medically Vulnerable schemes can fund a system in full.
Can you get free solar panels in Ireland?
Some households can. The Warmer Homes Scheme and the Solar PV for Medically Vulnerable Scheme fully fund solar up to 4 kWp and a 5 kWh battery for eligible homes. Warmer Homes is for owner-occupiers in a home built before 2006 with a low BER who receive a qualifying payment, and SEAI decides the measures after a survey.
If you receive one of the specified Department of Social Protection payments, such as Fuel Allowance, Working Family Payment or Carer’s Allowance, the enhanced grant pays €3,350 per kWp for the first 2 kWp and €850 per kWp up to 4 kWp, to a maximum of €8,400, plus €600 for a battery, for up to €9,000 combined.

Commercial Solar Grants for Businesses, Farms and Schools

The non-domestic grant now covers up to 45% of eligible cost, capped at €325,200, for applications between 7 October 2026 and 6 July 2027.
How much is the business solar grant?
The Non-Domestic Microgen Grant has risen from 23% to an effective 45% of eligible costs for applications made between 7 October 2026 and 6 July 2027. It supports systems up to 1 MWp, with the grant capped at €325,200, and covers businesses, farms, schools, community centres, public bodies and non-profits.
Yes. Farms can also fund solar under the TAMS scheme through the Department of Agriculture. Schools fall under the same enhanced non-domestic grant. We prepare and manage the application for commercial and community projects.
